About València Innovation Capital

València Innovation Capital is the innovation strategy of the Valencia City Council: the instrument the city uses to detect its challenges, experiment with solutions and scale them, in the service of people.

It works with an open-innovation, public-private collaboration model, connecting the public administration with talent, startups, companies, universities and other players in the innovation fabric to respond to Valencia's real needs. Much of that community works, takes part and trains at La Harinera.

The Challenge

1. No common relational layer

There was no shared space to connect the many people and organisations sharing La Harinera. There was physical proximity, but nothing to turn it into relationships.

2. Connections between members were hard

Generating connections between members was difficult, especially between teams located in different buildings of the premises.

3. Scattered information and resources

Communication relied on email and channels like WhatsApp or Telegram. Information, communications and resources were spread across separate tools, inefficiently.

The Solution

València Innovation Capital adopted a digital, private platform with its own identity, with a clear goal: to strengthen the sense of belonging and engagement of the La Harinera community, connecting the physical experience with a digital community.

Feending let them bring together in a single platform the connections between members, the content, the communications and the community's resources.

With the platform, València Innovation Capital can:

  • Unite La Harinera's physical experience with a living digital community.
  • Generate better connections between members, with interest-based matches.
  • Create sub-communities by area of interest or programme membership.
  • Bring the community's valuable resources together in one place.
  • Share carefully curated content, communications and events, without overload.

The key wasn't adding another channel, but the opposite: a curated community where every piece of content adds value, instead of duplicating what already flows through newsletters or social media.

Results

"We turn proximity into connection and a shared space into a sense of belonging."

  • Higher community engagement, with participation close to 50%.

  • A shift from a physical to a hybrid community: physical and digital.

  • Interest-based matches that spark new conversations.

  • 50% less time spent on community management.

  • Several communication tools unified into a single point of contact.

"Feending is helping us turn a shared physical space into a real community. What matters most to us is turning proximity into connection:

so that people discover each other, build valuable relationships and feel part of something shared."
